Umwelt III (HOME) in Barbican’s Digital Revolution

A piece of mine from a few years back is going to be in the Digital Revolution show at the Barbican in London. Björk, will.i.am, Aaron Koblin, and Zach Lieberman are also in the show. I hope I get to meet Björk.

Updates to my Hardware Random Number Generator

One of the more popular pages on robseward.com is “Make your own True Random Number Generator.” A lot of people have used the designs to do just that, and I’ve updated the page with discussion of some of their findings.

Want to Learn to Code?

This Saturday, I’ll be teaching a workshop at the New Museum with the excellent Amit Pitaru, Jer Thorp, David Nolan, and Ted Hayes. It’ll be run by Kitchen Table Coders. There’ll be 3-5 students per teacher, so students will get a lot of individual attention.

A Gun that Shoots Images onto your Pictures

Pope with "NO" projected above.

The Image Fulgurator is a projector disguised as a camera. When it detects a flash from a real camera, it projects an image onto its target for an instant. The fleeting projection might not be noticeable to the naked eye, but it appears in the picture that was taken at that moment. It won the 2008 Golden Nica, and was created by Juilius Von Bismarck, who has an awesome name.

Here’s a video documentary about the device. It’s a long, languid video, but it’s good, and there’s a clear demonstration of the Fulgurator at the 12:30 mark.

Fully Automated Butchering Robots

Look at these automated butchering machines. Especially crazy is the knife on the robotic arm at 4:30. It’s as if David Cronenburg directed that Björk video with the necking robots but it’s real and it goes on tirelessly, probably 24 hours a day, making sure you are never lacking lamb sausages.
